Nick Askew

A life with music running through it.

Music came first.

Nick Askew is a musician, composer and recording artist originally from the north of England. Before his work in software and technology, there was music: studying composition, playing in a band, and recording. After moving to Texas, he joined a band and began touring. That part of his story predates the companies he would later build, and music has remained a thread through the years that followed.

In an April 2024 conversation with Auto Collabs, Nick recalled studying music composition before leaving his course. He also described the move from England to Texas and his time playing in a touring band. His route was not a straight line from music school to a recording career. Other responsibilities and other kinds of work became part of his life, while writing and releasing music continued.

A catalog, over time.

The recorded work stretches back to Let Go, released in July 2011. Copilot and Diamonds followed in 2014, then CocoDeMer in 2015 and Gold in 2016. These singles form the earlier part of a catalog now available through major streaming platforms. Each has its own artwork and its own place in the chronology, rather than being collected here as one retrospective release.

The catalog continues in 2026 with Kiss and False Awakening (Interlude). The music pages bring these newer recordings together with the earlier singles, giving each work a permanent home, a release date, and a direct route to listen. It is possible to begin with the recent music and work backwards, or follow the recordings from the earliest release forward.

Showing up for the song.

Recording is also a practice, not only a release schedule. In an April 2025 interview, Nick discussed a challenge he had set himself: learn and record a song every day for thirty days. The commitment meant returning to the work even when a performance was difficult or a plan had to change. Partway through the month his voice gave out, and he had to adapt while continuing the challenge.

What stayed with him was the act of following through. He spoke about perseverance, about changing direction when a song was not working, and about keeping a promise he had made to himself. The daily recordings were a separate exercise from the original singles in this discography, but the story offers a more personal glimpse of his relationship with making music.

Room to experiment.

That interest in making things also extends to sound itself. Nick created InertiaPhysics, an experimental browser-based synthesizer that explores computation as a medium for synthesis. Rather than recreating a particular analog instrument, the project works with ideas such as oscillator drift, parameter inertia, nonlinear feedback, and emergent sonic behavior.

Here, the homepage visualizer offers another meeting of music and software. It responds to the audio as a recording plays, giving the listening experience a visual dimension without replacing the song. The recordings remain the center of this site. Alongside his other work, Nick continues to write and release original music, and this is the home for that part of his creative life.
